The American Hotel... Take Me Out To The Ballgame
A quick 3 day trip to The Baseball Hall Of Fame in Cooperstown, NY allowed us (BA, Mike, Carrie and Phil) a chance to stay at the well known American Hotel in Sharon Springs. The hotel purchased by Doug Plummer and Garth Roberts in 1996 was beautifully restored and five years later opened as a hotel and restaurant. We arrived Tuesday evening and were pleased to be able to enjoy dinner here.
We shared appetizers of Grilled Rare Beef Poutine
prime sirloin over homemade french fries with horseradish cheese curd and gravy as well as Ommegang Beer Battered Palatine Cheddar Cheese
with spiced apple relish. Dinner was a special Halibut topped with Crabmeat (sorry I do not remember the actual name) as well as Beef Tenderloin Tips with pears, bacon and bleu cheese. The meals are prepared by chef Lee Woolver. Wines were a mix of nice Chardonnays and a Riesling. Breakfasts were choices of omelettes, pancakes, french toast, etc all prepared fresh with seriously excellent coffee!
Doug is a great host who actually can talk more than someone I know personally...ME! So it wasn't surprising to find out he previously was an actor in Manhattan. The American Hotel is also home to the Planet Green TV show The Fabulous Beekman Boys.
